30 Ways to Practice Self-Love and Be Good to Yourself

By Jessica Chapman

It’s said that we cannot love others before we love ourselves. Self-worth and self-confidence both come from self-love. If you do not understand what your real value is, chances are others won’t wither. Here are some of the most important ways in which you can practice self-love and be compassionate towards yourself.

  1. Start your day by embracing yourself and telling yourself “I love you”. Maybe you don’t mean it at first, but your body still captures the positive energy that you’re sending through your words’ vibrations.

  2. Have a healthy breakfast and pay attention to what you consume. Eat lots of veggies and drink plenty of water. Focus on each bite that you’re taking. Don’t hurry to just put food in your stomach, eat mindfully.

  3. Love the person you are by complimenting yourself. Instead of criticizing your looks when you watch yourself in the mirror, appreciate yourself more each day.

  4. Select the realistic thoughts from the unrealistic ones. Sometimes, our mind tricks us into believing something that’s not real. Don’t believe everything you’re telling yourself.

  5. Get to know yourself better, every single day. This is the only way in which you can come to understand your inner power. This is your first step towards living life to its fullest.

  6. Let go of friends who don’t believe in you. Surround yourself with people that support you, love you, and are there for you whenever you need it. This will only remind you how absolutely amazing you are.

  8. Leave toxic relationships. When we keep people in our lives for no reason, they end up consuming us and eventually, destroying our souls. Let go of people that don’t need to be in your life. Let go of energy vampires.

  9. Celebrate every step that takes you closer to your goal. Celebrate every time you feel like it. Congratulate and treat yourself as you desire, even if it is for the smallest thing.

  10. Do something new each day/week/month. Get out of your comfort zone, explore. Try new things, make new friends, make new connections. You’ll feel great when you achieve something you didn’t think you ever could.

  11. Pay attention to the little things. Enjoy them and praise them. Maybe it’s your kid’s laughter or your neighbor waving at you.

  12. Love the things that make you different from everyone else. You’re unique, that’s what makes you so special.

  13. Understand that beauty is not something universally defined. Each person is beautiful in their own way. Don’t compare yourself to others. What someone might find pretty, another person could find disgraceful. If your body isn’t ‘perfect,’ it only means it doesn’t fit the model magazines’ idea of ‘perfect.’ Those girls don’t even look like that in real life.

  14. Take time for yourself each day. Find mental and physical space to become aware of who you truly are. Learn to meditate and take at least 10 minutes per day to focus on your breathing. If you need someone helping you out with schoolwork, search do my assignment on your engine and consult with essay professionals. You could always use a break, right?

  15. Follow what you love. Don’t listen to other people telling you what you can or cannot do. Do exactly what you want by following your intuition and passion.

  16. Have patience. Don’t rush into things, don’t try to control everything. Be rational when you’re making decisions but trust the universe. Let it help you on your path.

  17. Treat people around you kindly. Love them fully, and respect them even more. Treat other people the way you’d like to be treated.

  18. Before you fall asleep, be grateful for everything that you’ve been given. Understand how small you are in such a huge universe, and how many great things have happened to you still.

  19. If you’re going through a more challenging time, reach out to someone for help. It could be your parents, relatives, kids, friends, healers, anyone who could hear you out without judging. No one expects you to get through harder times by yourself.

  20. Learn how to say no. Being a ‘yes man’ all the time doesn’t work. It only keeps you trapped in the people pleaser mindset, which doesn’t lead anywhere.

  21. Forgive yourself. Stop guilting yourself for everything. You’re human, you make mistakes. There’s no point in thinking about past embarrassing situations you’ve been in and then judging yourself for it. Let it go, accept it.

  22. Keep a journal to track your moods. Write down everything that goes through your mind, whenever you feel like it. Don’t keep it in, let it out.

  23. Take time to do what you love the most. If you like reading, read. If you like playing guitar, do that. Whatever you do, just make sure you enjoy spending free time by yourself.

  24. Don’t wait for external validation and approval. You’re amazing just the way you are. People will judge you based on their perceptions anyway. You can’t change that; you can only change how you react to it.

  25. Express yourself by all means. Create something new every day. Dance, write poetry, or craft something.

  26. Start working on your shadow. Write down your wounds and traumas and analyze their cause. You could start with, what made me love myself less?

  27. Be realistic about your expectations. Don’t try to control anyone around you, as this can only make you love yourself less.

  28. Find your safe space, a place where you are happy and feel good about everything.

  29. Whenever you’re happy, write down a list of your best accomplishments and qualities. Read it when you feel blue.

  30. Be in touch with yourself, pay attention to your feelings, emotions, intuition. Hear them out, listen to what they’re telling you.

  31. Just have fun! Hang out with friends *or by yourself*, enjoy the Sun, go skiing, go swimming, get some ice cream, watch Netflix…. Just relax and take it slowly.
