By Jane

Spirituality helps a person discover the essence of his being. The following five books have been instrumental in helping thousands of people discover the meaning of this life. Each title has inspired thousands to face everyday challenges with dignity and confidence. Start your own spiritual journey by reading these texts:

1. The Secret

Few books have sparked such interest and controversy as The Secret. 'The Secret' has been sold more than 21 million times and translated into 44 different languages. The writer of the book, Rhonda Byrne, is a highly acclaimed Australian TV producer. Before the publication, Rhonda directed a film based on a similar theme.

However it was her book that was to gain fame. According to the writer, we have to believe in our self, and open our hearts to accept whatever nature has in store for us. Self-belief has the power to overcome biggest obstacles of our life. This book is widely perceived to be a revival of the New Thought Movement of the 19th century.

2. The Celestine Prophecy

It has been twenty years since the first version of the novel was published, but the book continues to mesmerize audiences the world over. Since then, it has become the most successful self-published novel of our time. In 1992, the author wrote and published his work describing the adventurous tale of an imaginary character traveling throughout Peru. During his travel, he discovers nine spiritual insights that are needed to maintain a balance between mind and body. Each insight is different and utterly engrossing, which is likely to captivate the reader until the very end.

3. A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose

The bestselling book of Eckhart Tolle is all about controlling egoism to succeed in the ultimate purpose of our lives. The author has explained that the purpose of the book is not to add new information, but describe how we can bring a shift in consciousness to reprieve ourselves of constant struggle. The powerful information touched Oprah Winfrey, who selected the book for her book club.

Now, millions agree that the information is simple, yet immensely powerful.

4. The Alchemist

Translated in 71 languages, the novel has sold more than 65 million copies, worldwide. Originally published in Portuguese by Paulo Coelho, the novel is a timeless work of spiritual art that motivates individuals to achieve whatever they wish. Alchemist tells a story of a Shepard who somehow manages to travel to Egypt after a premonition.

There he faces challenges, dangers, and love in order to get the treasure that he always desired. Inspired by a local Alchemist and an Arabian girl, the shepherd ultimately seeks his goal. In doing so, he achieves an eternal karma.

5. The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success

For those who are fond of ancient Indian Vedic teachings, they must read the classic book. Written by an inspirational guru, Chopra has laid down -easy to follow- seven fundamental principles that nature also uses to create its wonders. According to Chopra, wealth is not the only goal. Almost all human beings are able to live a 'fulfilled life' if they can achieve spirituality.

The book outlines how humans can achieve anything in life if they understand the seven principles of nature, and apply those principles to their daily life. The work of Deepak Chopra has created a sensation in Western audience who until now couldn't find such a powerful literature convincing them of the powers of human spirit.

Thanks so much for this nice collection of spiritual books! I would like to suggest a few that I find invaluable for every spiritual seeker. First, Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda. Next, "The Spiritual Teachings of Ramana Maharshi". I should also add Siddhartha as well as Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse.

Great picks. Here are my 2 cents: The Spiritual Path - Buddha Zen Tao Tantra, by Osho.

My favorite spiritual book is "The Road Less Traveled" by Scott Peck. Published in 1978, this book deals with the most important features that Peck, a psychiatrist and a born-again Christian, felt could make a human being truly happy. It is divided into three parts: discipline, love and grace. A must read for every spiritual seeker. Thanks!

I think that you've got to include the best selling spiritual book in the world: The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle!

Okay, thanks for the suggestion, it makes sense, although I'm not sure about your claim that it is on the top of the bestseller list.
