Perhaps, you have recently moved to a new city, or you are simply looking to try a different church for whatever reason. If you are set on following a specific religion, you might believe that simply switching to the other church is a good option. However, there are actually several things you should consider before just up and leaving your current church, and we have listed six of the best questions to ask a church before officially joining.
When are the Services?
By asking about the times they offer services, you will accomplish two things. A church that does not offer at least two services per week is likely not as modernized as you might prefer. You will also know that you have multiple options to work into your busy schedule to avoid missing the weekly sermon.
How are Sunday School Classes Divided?
Sunday school is important to attend especially when you are a new member because this will allow you to bond with other members. Before you become a member, you may want to know if they divide Sunday school classes simply by age, or if they have an option for couples if you are married.
Do You have Outside Group Opportunities?
While you will meet people during the services and at Sunday school, you will also meet people via activities outside of church. You may want to find out if they have any activities where you can interact with fellow members, such as picnics or caravanning to ball games together.
Do You Offer Special Classes for Children?
If you have children, you will want to at least ensure they have a care center that will watch them while you are in service or Sunday school. Better yet, they might even offer Sunday school courses for juniors.
How Experienced is the Head Pastor?
While most churches will not feature a nationally-televised pastor, you should still pick a church whose lead preacher has some experience. If they have not worked their way through the ranks to where they can preach with a great deal of knowledge and confidence, you might want to go to the next option.
What is His or Her Preaching Style?
In addition to the amount of experience a preacher has, different preachers also have different styles. Some read straight from The Bible while others take what The Bible says and put their own twist on it. You should find out which style the preacher uses, and consider this factor into your decision.
Choosing to attend a new church can be a bit nerve racking. Fortunately, you now have a list of six questions to make your decision a little easier.
